A Contemporary Shaker Kitchen Designed for Modern Family Living in Halifax

When the homeowners decided to renovate their kitchen in Halifax, they wanted far more than just a cosmetic update. While the existing space had plenty of potential, the layout wasn’t making the best use of the room, storage felt inefficient and there wasn’t enough worktop space for everyday cooking.

Their goal was to completely transform how the kitchen functioned, creating a more social environment while introducing clever storage solutions tailored to their lifestyle. Creating a More Social & Functional Kitchen Layout

Located close to The Piece Hall and the heart of Halifax, this project focused on improving the flow and usability of the space.

The existing kitchen lacked the organisation and functionality the homeowners needed, particularly when preparing meals and entertaining guests. A carefully designed peninsular layout was introduced to suit the natural flow of the room, which sits on a raised floor level.

The peninsular helps define the kitchen zone while creating additional preparation space and encouraging social interaction. Whether cooking for family or hosting friends, the layout allows conversations to continue naturally without separating the cook from the rest of the room. The result is a kitchen that feels far more connected, practical and enjoyable to use every day.

A Timeless Shaker Design with Contemporary Character

For this project, the homeowners selected the Nobilia Nordic range in Slate Grey, creating a kitchen that blends classic shaker styling with modern design details.

The soft grey cabinetry is complemented by Havana Oak laminate worktops and matching splashbacks, introducing warmth and texture throughout the room. This combination creates a welcoming and timeless aesthetic that feels equally at home in both traditional and contemporary interiors.

The balance of painted shaker doors and natural wood-effect surfaces gives the kitchen plenty of character while maintaining a clean and uncluttered appearance.

Clever Storage Tailored to Everyday Life

Storage was one of the key priorities throughout the design process and several bespoke solutions were incorporated to maximise organisation.

A dedicated pantry unit was created to provide efficient dry food storage while also housing small appliances such as the microwave and air fryer. This helps keep worktops clear and ensures everyday essentials remain neatly organised and easy to access. Internal bins were also integrated into the cabinetry, eliminating the need for a freestanding bin and helping maintain the clean appearance of the room.

Thoughtful Features & Finishing Details

Lighting plays an important role throughout the kitchen, helping to create a bright and welcoming environment for cooking, dining and entertaining.

Integrated E-motion and internal cabinet lighting provide both practical task lighting and a softer ambient glow during the evenings. Glass wall units introduce additional visual interest while helping the room feel lighter and more spacious.
