A Stylish Contemporary Kitchen Renovation in Huddersfield
When the homeowners decided to update their kitchen in Brockholes, they weren’t looking to completely reinvent the space. The existing layout worked reasonably well, but the kitchen felt dated and no longer reflected the distinctive sense of style found throughout the rest of their home.
Their brief was to create a kitchen that felt more aligned with the character of the property while maintaining the sociable layout they already enjoyed. By refining the existing design and introducing carefully selected finishes, storage solutions and lighting, we created a contemporary kitchen that perfectly balances style and practicality.
Enhancing a Layout Designed for Entertaining
Located close to Holmfirth, Honley and the Peak District National Park, this Huddersfield kitchen project focused on making the most of a layout that already had strong foundations.
The homeowners wanted to retain their peninsular arrangement because it played an important role in how they used the space. The design allows them to stay connected to family and guests while preparing meals, making the kitchen feel naturally sociable and welcoming.
Rather than changing the room dramatically, the design carefully optimised the existing layout, improving functionality while preserving the qualities that already worked well for everyday living and entertaining.
A Striking Combination of Colour & Texture
The new kitchen combines cabinetry from the Nobilia Easytouch and Structura ranges in Mineral Green and Milano Walnut, creating a design full of personality and warmth.
The Mineral Green finish brings a contemporary feel to the space while benefiting from Nobilia’s anti-fingerprint technology, making it both stylish and practical for everyday use. The addition of Milano Walnut introduces texture and natural warmth, helping to create a balanced and inviting environment.
Paired with 20mm Smokey Marble quartz worktops and a matching splashback behind the hob, the overall aesthetic feels sophisticated, modern and perfectly suited to the character of the home.
Clever Storage Without Compromising Style
Although aesthetics were a major priority, practical storage solutions were equally important throughout the design process.
A LeMans corner pull-out system makes excellent use of a traditionally awkward corner cabinet, ensuring valuable storage space remains fully accessible. Integrated spice storage within the extractor housing keeps ingredients organised and close to hand, while helping to maintain clean and uncluttered worktops.
A tambour unit with a pull-out table provides another clever storage solution, creating an easily accessible home for smaller appliances while maximising space that might otherwise go unused.
Thoughtful Lighting & Finishing Details
Lighting plays a significant role within the finished design and helps the kitchen feel just as impressive in the evening as it does during the day.
Integrated E-motion lighting creates a soft ambient glow throughout the room, allowing the kitchen to remain a welcoming part of the home even when cooking has finished. This was particularly important given the kitchen’s connection to the nearby dining area.
To complete the design, the homeowners selected a range of premium appliances and finishing touches including:
- Bosch Series 4 black oven
- Bosch induction hob
- Schock black undermount sink
- Matching matte green tap
- 20mm Smokey Marble quartz worktops with matching splashback
Together, these details create a kitchen that feels cohesive, practical and beautifully finished.
